Chiropractic and Nutrition

As a Chiropractic physician, I am asked frequently to evaluate new nutritional products that are introduced to the market. Many are very good, some are ok and a few are nothing more than hype. Mesa, Arizona has dozens of chiropractic doctors that can verify this fact.

Renowned nutritional expert, Dr. Bruce West wrote “As a nation, we eat poor-quality foods that have been stripped of nutrients.  We do not consume enough fresh fruits and vegetables.  Many of us get our whole grains from instant rice, refined wheat breads, pastas, and cereal.  We eat a tremendous amount of prepackaged, pre-made meals. One-quarter of Americans eat at fast food restaurants each day. Americans are overfed and undernourished.

The foods we eat are not providing our bodies with the nutrition it needs to survive and be healthy. We are starving our bodies and we are sick. We suffer from diabetes, heart attacks, obesity, and the list goes on and on.

Given proper nutrition, the human body has an amazing ability to heal itself. If properly fed and given the right nutrients, the human body is designed to repair itself. To do so, we need to eat a healthier diet, exercise, and take high-quality supplements made from whole foods. Whole food supplements supply our bodies with nutrients we are not getting from our diet, all the vitamins, minerals, trace minerals, and phytonutrients that foods possess in a way that nature intended, in a whole food form.”

Here in my Mesa, AZ Chiropractic office I counsel my patients to choose whole food supplements from Standard Process Labs and Awarenesslife. Chiropractors and the chiropractic profession have long taught the value of quality nutrition; even before it was considered the right thing to do.

Kidney Infection and Chiropractic – Really!

As a Chiropractor and nutritionist I am honored to assist many people with various illnesses in my Mesa, Arizona Clinic and through telephone consultations throughout the world.

A few years ago I had the honor and the privilege to meet a young woman that had a serious kidney problem. Beginning when she was eight years old and continuing for four more years, Stacy (not her real name) had chronic kidney infections stunting her normal growth. Stacy was an active 12 year old that loved to dance. But at less than 5 feet tall she was very short for her age; and thin too. She had been into visit her family doctor dozens of times. This doctor was kind and helpful but the infections continued, despite the repetitive use of antibiotics, to the point that it was determined that exploratory surgery was necessary.

Thankfully, Stacy and her family heard of my Mesa, AZ chiropractic clinic and of some of the unique things we are able to do.

After careful review and screening, a nutritional and chiropractic protocol was created for Stacy. It was determined that a parasite and virus combined were the cause of those painful years of kidney infections. Within three months Stacy was infection free. Six months later Stacy reported to have no infections and her growth spurt began. Stacy had grown 6 inches by the end of a year.

Today, Stacy is a healthy young mother with healthy kidneys. You may know of someone that has suffered with an illness for weeks or months. Please provide hope and encouragement through service, counsel and love. Share Stacy’s story with them and encourage them to seek additional help!

Mesa, Arizona Chiropractor helps with Candida!

In my Mesa, Arizona chiropractic clinic I often come across problems associated with Candida. Candida Albicans is a stubborn fungus (yeast) that acts parasitic in the body. The body’s immune system will usually keep it in check but when the immune system is compromised, this mean-spirited fungi can and will over take the body; inside and out.

There are prescription medications that will kill much of this fungus. However, it has been my experience that even these strong medications, along with the potential adverse side effects, will not totally eliminate the parasite.

Diet has been shown to control the proliferation of Candida. Basically speaking, a high carbohydrate diet contributes to the problem whereas conversely, a low carb diet may reduce its strength. In addition, foods such as lemon juice, olive and coconut oils, almonds and almond oil, onions, radishes and garlic are known to be helpful against the War on Candida.

For my patients I recommend the following Standard Process Lab nutritional supplements:

1) Zymex – 2 capsules, three times daily on an empty stomach (an empty stomach is 1 hour before eating and or two hours after).

2) Tuna Omega-3 and Linum B6 – two capsules, twice daily AM and PM.

3) MinTran – Three tablets, three times daily with meals.

4) Cayenne Pepper – One, three times daily with meals.

This protocol is to fight the yeast only. Depending on the severity, this may take 3 to 9 months. I have never seen it go over nine months though. Afterward, it is wise to use a maintenance program to keep it from proliferating once again.

If this feels right to you and you wish to know more, you may give me a call at 480-644-0644 and I would be happy visit with you directly. My chiropractic clinic is located in downtown Mesa, AZ on Lindsay road, north of main.

Spinal disease prevention; what is it and is it necessary?

Just the other day, while driving home with my daughter, As a practicing chiropractor in Mesa, Arizona I re-discovered an important point. Rachelle and I were discussing the need for dentistry and how grateful we are for them when we are having tooth pain! We further discussed the importance of prevention; brushing, flossing and regular check-ups. The dental profession many years ago understood that for the profession to survive they needed to get their message out to the public that your family dentist is important to every man woman and child. They knew that prevention was critical to oral health and that society needed to learn and believe it too. So, they set out to educate “the people”.

Spinal disease prevention; what is it and is it necessary? In the Boniva commercial Sally Fields says ” I only have one body and one life”. This is a very true statement. You also have only one spine and when it begins to have problems it is painful and expensive to repair. Spinal hygiene includes correct sleep. standing, working and sitting posture. It also includes proper exercise and spinal alignment. Please do not take spinal hygiene lightly. Like your teeth, maintaining a healthy spine will bring you peace of mind today and a stronger, healthier lifestyle tomorrow.

Treating Pain without drugs

In my Mesa, Arizona chiropractic office I see many suffering from pain. Most desire to rid them selves from the negative effects of pain medication, In order to treat pain without the use of drugs it is important to understand how pain occurs. Pain is a response to a signal transmitted by chemical reactions; the same chemical reaction that produces inflammation. When you sprain your back for example, the muscles and ligaments inflame producing pain. The use of anti-inflammatory medication reduces these chemicals temporarily. So, if we wish to reduce inflammation and pain without the use of a drug we need alternatives.

In every first aid course there is an acronym that must be learned: R.I.C.E. RICE stands for rest, ice, compression and elevation. Each contributes to the reduction of inflammation,, however it is the use of ice that I believe is most essential. When applying ice to your painful muscle or joint there are simple rules to follow. First, never apply ice directly to the skin. Second, you must leave the ice on the area long enough to feel the “burning” sensation; usually 15 to 20 minutes. This burning sensation will last for only a few seconds (30 to 45). Lastly, never leave the ice on for more than 20 minutes

Fish oil is very popular these days for the use of many things but did you know that it reduces inflammation? Studies have shown that fish oil is helpful for patients with neck pain and back pain, as well as joint pain associated with rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, and ulcerative colitis. You should not take fish oil if you are taking significant blood-thinning medications such as warfarin (Coumadin).

Calcium with Vitamin D is known to have anti-inflammatory properties. Low back pain and widespread pain that can be confused with fibromyalgia are also known to be associated with vitamin D deficiency. We get vitamin D from the sun and from our kidneys but the added supplementation is helpful especially for those couped up indoors.

Protease Enzyme is powerful at reducing inflammation and pain in the body. Be careful though, too much of this wonderfully natural product can cause stomach upset.

Magnesium: This important mineral works hand in hand with calcium to help reduce pain and inflammation throughout the body. The average American’s intake of magnesium is well below the recommended daily allowance (RDA) and this has been associated with the expression of numerous conditions including heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, osteoporosis, headache, chronic inflammation, and an increase in nervous system excitability. Approximately 400 mg of supplemental magnesium per day is thought to be adequate for most individuals.
