That is a very good question Gold and thank you for asking it. first off, where did you get the information that your body stopped making hormones all together after the ovaries were removed? It is true that estrogen production is significantly reduced after the ovaries are removed but your body will continue to develop some estrogen naturally. Did you know that men have estrogen too? You only need a small amount to help prevent osteoporosis. The primary purpose of estrogen is for child bearing. You body is a miraculous machine and can often do things one cannot even imagine.

With that said, please know that I do recognize the need for hormone replacement, from time to time. My article suggests that you should be wise about the decisions you make and in order to do that, you need to be informed of your options.

Again, thank you for asking.

What if you no longer have your ovaries? Mine were removed when I was 24 and I have been taking hormone pills ever since and I am now 48. This article relates to women who still have their ovaries and are going through menopause. With not having ovaries I do not have any souce of hormones unless I take medication. What does your study have to say in regards to this.

Thank you Katie for your response. Although there are many alternatives to hormone treatment, the best place to begin is with the human body. Please give my best to all of the wonderful people at advancespine!

I think that letting your body produce it's own hormones is a better option and more natural

Thank you Janine for your comment. I do not want to frighten anyone but I do want everyone to be well informed so that each person can make an educated decision as to what is best for them individually. It sounds to me that you have just done that! Well done and, i wish you the best of health.
